ONGC has been assigning high degree of importance to the training of manpower. With a view to cater to the training needs of officers and staff, ONGC has already set up ONGC Academy at Dehradun and four Skill Development Centers at Vadodara, Mumbai, Chennai and Sibsagar. Apart from imparting training, ONGC also focuses on developing in-house resources to take up the mantle of trainers. These training institutes have many officers who are offering their services as faculty.
Efforts were made in past to nominate some of the officers to the program “Train the Trainers”, being organized by professional agencies – whereby they can acquire new skills and knowledge and obtain certification as “Certified Trainer”.
As an integral part of Skill India Mission, training program for “Train the Trainers” are being conducted by National Skill Development Corporation of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship for such established and aspiring trainers. It is a five-day integrated course including rigorous evaluation to recognize and grant accreditation as “Certified Trainer” to the officers. In view of the current pandemic, the program this year was held online.
Mr Desai has been conducting training programs on industrial relations, labour laws and contract labour for various target groups of ONGC for more than 10 years. With a view to leverage his expertise, Director (HR) has nominated him to conduct workshops on “Management of Contract Labour – Roles and Responsibilities of Principal Employers” for all work centers of ONGC. Recently, he offered his services as faculty for “Sensitization Program on IR and Contract Labour for Key Executives”.
