ONGC adopts Jantar Mantar under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC-BSE: 500312/NSE: ONGC/ISIN:INE213A01029)) has adopted the historic monument, Jantar Mantar, as part of cleanliness initiative of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan envisioned by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. This initiative will see cleanliness being maintained by ONGCians in and around the heritage monument.
Mr D.K. Sarraf, CMD, ONGC kicked off this programme on of November 1, 2014, from the iconic moon dial of Jantar Mantar. Mr Shashi Shanker Director (T&FS), Mr. T. K. Sengupta, Director (Offshore) and Mr Desh Deepak Misra, Director (HR) along with senior executives were also present on this occasion.
Mrs Archana Mathur, Economic Advisor to the MoPNG also joined in the cleanliness drive. Such was the zeal and enthusiasm that not only they cleaned the total periphery of the monument, but spent appreciable time cleaning up the molasses that had accumulated in the moon dial structure of the monument. More than 100 ONGCians took part in the cleanliness drive.
Recently while launching the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on October 2nd, 2014, Mr Sarraf had exhorted the employees to participate in the mission wholeheartedly and said that clean citizen is a good citizen. He added that “External cleanliness is not sufficient. One should be clean from within,” he added.
ONGC has recently signed a tripartite MoU with Archaeological Survey of India and Ministry of Tourism, Government of India for cleanliness and conservation of the various iconic historical monument of India. ONGC has already decided for financial support of Rs 20.75 crore for conservation and cleanliness of Tajmahal one of he seven wonders of the world.
ONGC had launched a massive cleanliness campaign from October 2, 2014 in all its all work centres under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Under the mission, ONGC has plans to take up various initiatives including construction of toilet blocksin more than 2500 government schools in 26 districts spread over 13 states during the current financial year at a cost of Rs 100 crores.This initiative is part of the mission to achieve total sanitation in India over a period of next five years.
