ONGC steps up medical equipment support for VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi

ONGC on 2 April 2024 stepped up financial support to provide medical equipment and public utility items to VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi under the CSR initiative of ONGC Foundation. The aid, worth Rs. 4,95,55,165, was extended in the presence of Director (HR) Manish Patil and Medical Superintendent, VMMC & SJH, Dr. Vandana Talwar.

The initiative was part of a larger project that aimed to address the needs of government hospitals in Delhi under CSR. Recognizing Safdarjung Hospital's vital service particularly to the underprivileged communities of Delhi-NCR, a team of senior officials of ONGC visited the facility to assess their needs. They interacted with the team of doctors, headed by the Medical Superintendent, and then a list of required equipment was prepared.

Phacoemulsification Machine, Operating Microscope (Anterior Segment), Operating Microscope (Posterior Segment), Portable Ultrasound, Trolley Bed, Vein Viewer, Multipara Monitor, Portable Monitor – Low end, Transfer Trolley, Wheelchair (Folding), RO Plant, Water ATM, and Mobile Handsets are some of the essential medical equipment and supplies that has been provided to the hospital to enhance various aspects of patient care.

Safdarjung Hospital is one of the biggest hospitals in the Delhi and serves over 12000 patients from Delhi-NCR and surrounding states daily. The 80-year-old institution sees a footfall of about 20000 to 25000 people daily which includes patients and attendants. It has 2873 beds with 35 departments and offers all its services free-of-cost, with the exception of CT scans and MRIs, which are conducted at a nominal cost.

Hence, this project aims to address the critical needs at Safdarjung Hospital. Recognizing the department's substantial patient load, with OPD attendance exceeding 62,000 in 2022, the project provided advanced ophthalmology equipment. ONGC’s initiative is further expected to enhance the hospital’s capacity to deliver high-quality and comprehensive healthcare services.
