In a media news item today, it has been reported that ONGC has struck Oil & Gas in 3 new blocks viz. Charada structure and Matar Field in Cambay Basin, and YS-5-IA (YSAF) in KG Basin. It is further reported that the KG Basin discovery holds significant promise and could have an estimated reserves of 10 Trillion Cubic Feet (TCF) of gas.

Institute of Reservoir Studies of ONGC in collaboration with TERI, New Delhi has developed a novel microbial process for improving well productivity using S-2 consortium upto 900C.

The status of Oil & Gas reserves accreted during the year 2008-09 was presented in the Board Meeting of ONGC held today (5th May, 2009). The highlights bring out reserves accretion from ONGC operated domestic fields during the year, at 284.81 Million Tonnes of Oil Equivalent (MToe) ‘In Place’, and at 68.90 MToe ‘Ultimate’. Incidentally, these are the highest reserves accreted in the preceding 18 years.

A recent survey by the Indian School of Business (Hyderabad) and the Vale Columbia Center on Sustainable International Investment (VCC) at Columbia University in New York has rated ONGC as the leading Indian Multinational Enterprise (MNE), in a list of 24 Indian MNEs.

ONGC has continued its advancement in the Forbes Global 2000 ladder. In the latest annual ranking of the world's biggest 2,000 companies brought out by the iconic US magazine, ONGC has been listed at 152nd, up a handsome 46 notches from last year's rank of 198th.

ONGC bagged 'Leading Oil & Gas Corporate of the Year' award announced by Petroleum Federation of India today. This is the highest category of award given to a corporate by PetroFed. The PetroFed Oil & Gas Awards-2008’ were given at an impressive ceremony in New Delhi today.

The first DSIJ PSU Awards 2009 were given away at a glittering ceremony held at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi last evening. The awards have been instituted by the Dalal Street Investment Journal (DSIJ) to felicitate the real heroes of the Indian economy with a view to recognizing their contributions in shaping the nation’s economy.

ONGC’s Director (Finance) Mr. D K Sarraf has been adjudged as the Best Chief Financial Officer in Indian Oil and Gas sector, by CNBC TV-18. The award has been given to Mr. Sarraf in recognition of his able stewardship of the oil major through the current challenging times. Mr. Sarraf received the coveted award in a function held in Mumbai by CNBC-TV18, on 19th March 2009.

Mr. D K Pande, Director (Exploration), has been re-elected as Director on the Board of Energistics, for the Oil Company seat. The other elected Directors represent Chevron, BP, Exxon-Mobil, Shell, Total and Statoil Hydro.

M/s. Goldman Sachs (Global Investment Research) have published a report dated 5th March 2009 on ONGC raising various concerns regarding company operations - more notably raising serious apprehensions on corporate governance issues. A perusal of their report reveals that their analysis is devoid of basic facts and certain analysis is based on non-comparable benchmarks. Their outlook on ONGC is based on following five concerns:-

ONGC Board in its 189th Board Meeting on 5th March 2009 approved sanctions for following investment proposals:

The Strategic Alliance partners would jointly work in various areas like; near term production enhancement solutions, optimization of reservoirs and production systems through Integrated Project Management, recovery and production optimization, reservoir management, marginal field development, Logging services, data and information management and deep-water exploration & exploitation.

At the 81st Annual General Meeting of FICCI, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) was conferred by FICCI its annual award for 2007-08 in appreciation to “Outstanding Achievement in Environmental Sustainability of Businesses”.

ONGC Petro additions Limited (OPaL) has signed a contract for Dual Feed Cracker Unit of Petro-chemical plant being set up at Dahej, Gujarat with consortium of M/s Linde AG, Germany and M/s Samsung Engg South Korea on 10th February 2009 at New Delhi. The contract valued at Rs 6800 Crore is the largest single Lump-Sum Turnkey (LSTK) contract so far executed by Linde and Samsung signally or as a consortium in India.

Sudhir Vasudeva has taken over as the Director (Offshore) of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC) on 1st February 2009. He succeeds N K Mitra who has superannuated on 31st January 2009.

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC) Board, in its 187th meeting on 28th January 2009, has approved the second phase of Mumbai High North (MHN) Redevelopment project, which will yield an incremental crude oil production of 17.354 Million Metric Tonnes (MMT) and Natural Gas 2.987 Billion Cubic Metres (BCM), aggregating to 20.34 Million Tonnes of Oil equivalent, by March 2030.
