| MRPL receives the first consignment of Cairn 'Mangala' Crude at Mangalore |

The 29,000 tonne parcel of 'Mangala' crude from Cairn Energy India Ltd was received by the ONGC's mini ratna subsidiary Mangalore refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) at their jetty at New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) today. The 208,000 barrels or 29,000-tons parcel of crude from the Cairn's Mangala Field in the Barmer Dist fields was transported by road to Kandla Port at Gujarat and loaded on COUGAR (tanker), captained by Sashay and his Ukeranain crew and brought to NMPT Mangalore.

A simple ceremony marked the historic occasion. A crystal bottle of the crude was handed over by Captain Pillai, DGM Marine Operations & Regional Manager of Cairn Energy India Ltd to Shri U K Basu, MD in the presence of Shri Ponnuraj I A S, Deputy Commissioner of Mangalore and Director on board of NMPT, Capt Sashay of Cougar, Shri M R Hedaoo, Chief Engineer NMPT who represented Chairman NMPT and his team, Commandant Jha of Coast Guard, Mangalore, Senior Management Team of MRPL led by Shri Upadhya, GGM Refinery i/charge.

Post the simple function marking the historic occasion, this crude is being discharged to MRPL and Phase I of the refinery will start processing it today.

Mangala Crude
|
MRPL is likely to receive about 0.2 MMT of Mangala crude oil this year and it will be 0.4 MMT next year. With the fast progressing Phase III projects kicking in MRPL will be able to process more of such crude.

Another first !!
|
MRPL was the first to receive Nile (OVL)crude in the year 2003 from Sudan, first to receive Sakalin (OVL)crude from Russia in the year 2006 and now Mangala from Rajasthan in the year 2009.

Speaking on the occasion Shri Ponnuraj IAS expressed his happiness in Mangalore & NMPT being a part of an event of significance.

Shri UK Basu who symbolically received the crude parcel said that this was a big moment for India's Oil Industry and MRPL is proud to be part of it.

Shri R S Sharma, Chairman ONGC Group of companies, complimented Team MRPL for taking the initiative to be the first refinery in the country to process Mangala Crude.
