| ONGC signs MoU with TGT for increasing production of ONGC’s matured fields - Petrotech 2007 |
January 18, 2007
A historic MoU was signed today at New Delhi between TGT and ONGC for increasing the production of ONGC’s matured fields.
TGT a Russian based company is an international service provider of well and reservoir diagnostics and management with operations extending beyond Russia, to include, Middle East and Asia.

The MoU was signed by MrRoustam Khamitov, MD, TGT and Mr D.K. Pande, Director(Exploration), ONGC.
The Signing ceremony was graced by Mr Murli Deora, Hon’ble Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas which included Mr. Zafar Saifullah, former Cabinet Secretary.
ONGC was represented by Mr R.S. Sharma, C&MD, Dr. A.K. Balyan, Director-HR and other senior officials.
The objective of the MoU is to put the ageing fields back on production and also arrest decline from matured fields with TGT’s state-of-the art EOR and IOR technology. The technology, as assured, would enhance oil production from old and ageing fields and tight reservoirs.
The advantages of the MoU is to utilize the strength of TGT with its vast experience of over 50 years in reservoir study and the application of its services in mature oil fields with a key focus on optimization of technologies.
A relationship built through signing MoU will add value to the long term business of both the companies by accessing to the latest technologies available with TGT.
Besides these, the company posses two proprietary:
Technologies for reservoir diagnostics in Spectral Acoustics
And Static /dynamic high precision temperature measurement
Based on these technologies they have the unique experience of creating heat flow maps which are used in reservoir management.
In the current oil prices scenario the two most important activities for any oil company in development and production front are sustainable production from aging fields and enhancement of recovery factor. TGT has technology to increase RF up to 45 % plus.
In ONGC we have number of old oil fields where recoveries are low. The glaring example is Kalol with a RF of around 14%.
Addressing the distinguished gathering and large turnout of the media who were present on the occasion, Mr. Murli Deora, the Hon’ble Petroleum Minister thanked Mr R.S. Sharma, C&MD, ONGC for inviting him to grace the occasion.
He said “I am sure this MoU will be very, very helpful”.
Referring back to the association our country had with Russia, Mr Deora acknowledged the cooperation and help extended by the Russians in the critical areas of Oil and steel since India got its independence 50 years back.
He added the invitation of the Russian President Putin on Jan 26, 2007 is a reaffirmation of our growing belief in strengthening the ties between the two countries.
Referring to our Strategic Goal-2, aimed at improving the recovery factor of our ageing fields, Mr. R.S. Sharma, C&MD, ONGC said that the need for such a MoU emanates in view of the large number of ageing fields showing a decline in production.
While thanking the Russians for their unstinted support and cooperation given to our country, C&MD said that we shall always value their association.
Acknowledging the strengths and reputation of TGT in this field, Mr. Sharma sincerely hoped that the document in the form of MoU would be a win-win situation for both ONGC and TGT.
Speaking about the expertise of the company in the field of matured oil and gas fields at late stages of the traditional development, Mr. Roustam Khamitov, MD,TGT said that against the background of company’s successful foray in the Gulf , TGT will have the chance to look at reservoirs in India.
“The challenges can be achieved’ he said.
While thanking ONGC for giving an opportunity Mr. Khamitov said that TGT will share knowledge for the befit of the ONGC.
I wish our cooperation all the success he added.

About TGT-
TGT is a company that has a very strong background in research and development of technologies used in reservoir management.
The main subjects of TGT activities are matured oil and gas fields at late stages of traditional developments
It has a full spectrum of technologies right from equipment manufacturing to optimization of technologies.
TGT has expertise in providing a new life to old fields by enhancing ultimate recovery and reducing operating expenditure
TGT Oil and Gas Services has shown their interest to develop relationship with ONGC to support E&P activities. The company possesses Soviet Union experience in dealing matured water flooding oil and gas fields.
TGT has naturally grown out of Professor Nikolaj Neprimerov reservoir engineering School. The company has vast experience of over 50 years in Reservoir Study and the application of its services in matured oil fields with key focus on optimization technologies.
The company possesses the knowledge of 3 super-giants fields, 7 giant fields, dozens of small fields, 10 different operating companies and thousand of different wells with different reservoir conditions.
The company intensively employs the various modern mathematical and physical models in reservoir diagnostics, logging and treatments. Those methods and algorithms are implemented in a list of proprietary software. The company develops proprietary logging tools and corresponding software for reservoir diagnostic.
The company has a unique experience in logging, interpreting and creating heat flow maps and cross-section based on high resolution temperature surveys. This technique is one of the most advanced methods in reservoir study.
The company possesses two proprietary technologies (namely Static/Dynamic/Flowing High Precision temperature logging and Spectral Acoustics) as well as wide experience of designing and interpreting of integrated package of different logging surveys.
The company’s Optimization Technologies like HTP has been tested in several blocks of super-gaint Romashkino oilfield (Russia) and demonstrated the possibility to recover up to 78% of STOIIP while the average Ultimate recovery is 49% and FDP target is 54% only.
